Diamond Wheels vs CBN Wheels


Diamond wheel and CBN wheel are the focus of grinding industry at present.  
In the diamond-based industry, CBN, as the superabrasive of hard-to-grind materials (DTG), quickly becomes the competitor of diamond.  
Diamond is the hardest material known to man, but chemists have created a man-made material that can rival its strength, called CBN.  
Diamond and CBN have the same crystal structure, diamond is composed of pure carbon, while CBN is composed of boron and nitrogen elements.  


Why choose diamond wheels?  
  
It is well known that diamond is the hardest grinding and sharpening material.  
It is cost-effective in cemented carbide, glass, ceramics, ferrite and non-ferrous metals.  
The biggest advantage of using diamond grinding wheel is its hardness and its high thermal conductivity.  High thermal conductivity allows the diamond crystal to transfer heat from the cutting edge of the grinding wheel and dissipate heat through the binder and grinding wheel body when necessary.

Why choose CBN wheels?  


CBN stands for cubic boron nitride, a superabrasive that has almost the same hardness, cold cutting and ability to work with black materials, unlike diamonds.  
Diamond is made of pure carbon and is produced under high temperature and pressure.  When diamond is used to harden steel, it causes a chemical reaction that essentially begins to form graphite and loses its strength.  
So what makes CBN better suited for working with hardened steel?  CBN is not made of carbon atoms, but of boron and nitrogen compounds formed under pressure and heat.  Grinding hardened steel produces high temperatures, and CBN has great thermal conductivity and remains cool at extreme high temperatures.  
Our CBN wheels are more suitable for machining hardened steel, high speed steel, stellite and nickel base alloy and tool steel.
